The best way to thank Allah (swt), is giving up something for him. Salat, du3a', zakat, sadaqa, helping the poor, fasting, e.g. are all examples of giving up something for Allah (swt). Find something worldy that you love, and you know that you shouldn't be doing it or having it or loving it etc, and give it up.
